Cognex Corporation was founded in 1981 by a graduates of MIT in Boston, and quickly became established as the leading vision supplier to the electronics and semiconductor industries. Today Cognex employs over 600 people worldwide and is the world's most successful machine vision company, with over 100,000 vision systems sold to date. Following the acquisition of Image Industries in 2000, Cognex is now the largest vision company in the UK, in terms of sales volume and vision staff.

Cognex offer a wide range of industrial vision systems backed up by local application engineering, vision solution engineering, service and support. The 8000 series offers both frame grabber and vision engines for the PC, providing a powerful solution for OEMs and system integrators, while Checkpoint uses a graphical programming language and is used by manufacturing engineers and integrators. The new InSight vision sensor uses the powerful Cognex software tools in a low cost modular system. Other application specific solutions include products for character reading and verification (OCR, OCV), two dimensional code reading (2D matrix), LCD inspection and fiducial finding. |
