Membership of the UKIVA confers many benefits, primarily because of the many publicity opportunities that members receive.

Being a member of UKIVA gives you the right to a page on our site www.ukiva.org which is a natural ‘portal’ for anyone seeking information about machine vision and imaging technology to use. It was receiving over 6000 visits a month by the end of 2006, growing at 58% a year. In addition, there are many other specific publicity opportunities.

Additional Web site and e-mail opportunities

Breaking News

You can submit short newsworthy items (under 750 characters) to our Breaking News section on the front page of our web site with a link to a relevant web page on your site or elsewhere. Subject to editorial approval, it will promptly be posted on the website, where the headlines for the latest five items appear and it will stay on the news page even when the headline is 'bumped off' the front page. This service is free. You can submit as many items as you like but we try not to have two from the same member without at least one other in between!

E-Newsletter

All items submitted for Breaking News since the last issue will be included in a text-only ENewsletter, which goes monthly to over 1900 addresses who have expressed a specific interest in UKIVA activities and/or registered to receive it. This service is free.

Front page 'ads' for new products

There are five ‘boxes’ on the front page to show (reasonably) new products or services. The cost is only £50+VAT per month for a maximum of two months. Each of these front-page boxes has a link to a full page with a larger image and description of the product, and a link to the relevant website. These spaces are offered on a ‘first come first served’ basis and are usually oversubscribed.

Bi-yearly PDF Newsletter

Twice a year, before Photonex and before VTX, we produce a full colour PDF Newsletter. This carries news about UKIVA and about individual members (other than product announcements), introductions to new members, and adverts. It is included in the IMVE magazine and sent out to their UK mailing list of about 1500. There is no charge for newsworthy information about members or for the new member introductions. Members will be alerted in good time to the opportunities in the forthcoming Newsletter. An e-mail is used to alert over 1900 subscribers to the presence of the PDF on our website, and paper copies are distributed at Photonex and VTX and the first time MACH in 2008.

PDF member directory

At the same time as we produce the Bi-yearly PDF Newsletter, we produce a short-form directory with just 30 words about each member, and contact details, as a convenient listing in print form. Entries are free, and the existence of a new edition is notified to subscribers alongside the full colour Newsletter notification.

Courses

This page on the web site allows any member, or indeed an academic or similar institution, to announce that they hold courses relevant to industrial machine vision. If you want to add yourselves, ask for a form in the first instance. This is not intended for 'live' announcements of specific courses, which should be on your own site – just to show who offers what sort of courses – paid or free . There is no charge for inclusion on this page.

Members pages on the UKIVA site

The search engine on the UKIVA site will only 'see' what is on the page. If you add, say, a well-known product brand to your portfolio, or a new application capability, do not neglect to ask us to modify the wording on your site to mention it. We now have a simple editing tool and can usually make changes the same or next day that they are received. There is no charge for such work.

External search engines will be encouraged to find your page on the UKIVA site if you include every product type and brand name – we have found that members doing this have approximately doubled visits to their pages.

Your entries on the 'Members' listing

If you, say, introduce for the first time an application-specific product, you may want to add a reference to your page in the relevant section below the main alphabetical members list. There is no charge for this but you must 'fit' the category.

Exhibition related opportunities

Presenting seminars at Photonex or VTX

Members get first choice of presentation slots at Photonex and exclusive rights to present at VTX. Slots cost £100 + VAT per slot, which includes the right to one A4 space on the literature stand at the UKIVA booth, and to inclusion of the PowerPoint presentation in PDF form on the Free Resources section of our website. This has proved to become a long-term resource used and often downloaded. We also presented free seminars at MACH in April 2008.

Literature stand

Spaces for members to display their literature at the UKIVA booth cost £75 + VAT per A4 space for both days, but are free to Seminar presenters.

Photograph and name boards

Photograph images submitted by members will be made into A3 sized display boards in a uniform style at cost (about £50 at present) and used as a backdrop to the UKIVA booth at shows that we have a stand at, at no charge per event . It is the responsibility of the member to keep the photo up-to-date but UKIVA will store it from event to event at no charge.

Membership boards

Members are provided with a membership board on joining, and are encouraged to display it at events on their booths. Although not in itself added publicity, displaying the board along with many other members does, we feel, add to credibility for the member and for UKIVA. These are produced for members’ use at no cost to them.

Other opportunities

Job Adverts

Free recruitment advertising on the website. This is one of the most frequent ‘entry’ pages, indicating that potential recruits ‘bookmark’ this page. One free recruitment could save the entire year’s membership fee!

Inclusion in editorial articles.

Every month the Association reviews known opportunities to submit articles about vision to publications that have planned editorial features relevant to the technology. Members are invited to submit material that can be incorporated into an informative article, mentioning more than one member and with suitable illustrations, which will be written using these submissions. The result is free publicity for both the Association and all the members who are mentioned. An extensive listing of relevant planned editorial features arranged by ‘deadline’ month is supplied to members who may wish to make their own editorial submissions direct to the journal concerned.

Monthly Press releases

The Association tries to circulate a Press release each month about some aspect of the machine vision industry or technology. New joiners are usually featured in these, as are events at which several members were or will be present.

Articles

Articles can be written for you by Dr Denis Bulgin of In Press PR Ltd at a specially reduced price of £700 + VAT, compared with the standard rate of £1000. Once you have identified a potential feature, he will contact the magazine concerned and secure you a placement. He will write the article, secure all the necessary approvals and then make sure it arrives with the editor to meet the deadline date. Denis has been working with us as our PR since 1999 and has become thoroughly familiar with machine vision. He drafts the majority of our Articles for us, rarely needing significant revision.
